Don’t leave town without..

Margaret River Style

Visit the caves!  Hundreds of stunning ancient caves lie beneath the Leeuwin-natraliste ridge. They are simply breathtaking and a great way to escape the sun or rain for a few hours. Currently four are open to the public, and all offer a very different experience.

Mammoth – Self guided with audio headsets.

Lake Cave – Guided, relatively short but stunning with over 300 stairs involved.

Jewel Cave – The biggest of all the caves and the most award winning, also guided.

Moondyne Cave – Not for the faint hearted! After suiting up in overalls, gloves and a head torch you’ll be ready for three hours of underground adventure.

Take in the view at “Karri Corner” and discover the magic of Boranup Forrest. A leisurely twenty minute drive south of Margaret River along Caves road will put you deep in the Boranup forest, surrounded by ancient Karri tree’s 60m tall. It’s a great place for walks and picnics, camp sites are also available if you feel like pitching a tent for the night.

Canoe the Margaret River – You can rent canoes by the hour at River mouth beach and take yourself on a private adventure. If you’d prefer a guide there are several tour companies that incorporate canoeing the Margaret River into their daily expedition.

Watch the Whales go by – Every year from May to November thousands of Southern Right and Humpback Whales come visit the Margaret River Region, lucky us! These creatures are simply amazing. A Whale Watching Tour is definitely the most spectacular way to experience these gentle giant, but if you don’t enjoy being on the ocean you can spot whales from the beach.

Beaches – No trip to Margaret River is complete without a dip in the to the ocean. One of our favourites is Gnarabup, This calm and beautiful beach is very popular amongst swimmers and stand up paddle boarders. Outer reefs protect the beach from big swells and a headland to the south makes it a great place to escape the winds. There is even a cafe that overlooks the ocean, perfect for your pre swim coffee. (It’s not a secret spot and does get quite busy in peak season, but for good reason)

Outdoor Cinema  – Running only in the summer months, this truly is a great way to spend a barmy evening. Think wine, cheese, picnic rugs and a good movie all set in the beautiful vineyards of Cape Mentelle. You can pick up a program from the local tourist information centre. – November to May weather depending

Don’t leave town without – doing a sunset at “the point” this is one of Margaret River’s most famous beaches, a world-renowned wave, home to the annual Margaret River Pro and the perfect spot to watch it all unfold; Surfers, kiteboarders, travellers, picture takers and picnic goers all come together to take in the view and watch the action. There’s also a great little lagoon for swimming, a shaded area for bbq’s and lots of lawn for picnics.
